Manali is well-connected to Ambala, Chandigarh and New Delhi by state-run and private buses. Book air-conditioned Volvo coaches for comfort on the 540 km / 14-hour journey from Delhi. Volvo buses also available from Panipat, Ambala and Chandigarh.
Route: Delhi (NH 1) – Sonepat – Panipat – Karnal – Ambala – Chandigarh (NH 21) – Rupnagar – Bilaspur – Mandi – Kullu – Manali. Distances: Delhi 540 km, Chandigarh 305 km, Dehradun 227 km, Ambala 370 km. Hiring a taxi is advisable for mountain roads.
Jogindernagar railway station is the nearest railhead. Chandigarh (350 km) and Ambala (360 km) are other options. From railheads, taxis and buses are readily available at reasonable cost to reach Manali.
Nearest airport is Bhuntar, 50 km from Manali. Air India flights connect Bhuntar with Delhi and Chandigarh. Pre-paid taxis are available from the airport. Other nearby airports: Dharamshala, Chandigarh and Shimla.
