The National Green Tribunal granted partial relief to taxi and luxury coach operators plying in the Manali-Rohtang Pass areas of Himachal Pradesh by staying environment compensation tax on the vehicles,Now, 800 petrol vehicles can enter Rohtang every day. Earlier, the number was 600. The tribunal, however, refused to increase the number of diesel vehicles from 400 per day..

The permits can be obtained online in two time frames: (i) 10:00 hrs (200 Diesel and 400 Petrol) (ii) 16:00 hrs (200 Diesel and 400 Petrol)

Note- No Vehicles are allowed on TUESDAY as the day is marked for maintenance of Rohtang Pass.
The NGT has allowed only four stroke snow-scooters to operate at the Beas Nullah to Sagu Fall and at Gulaba with a rider that not more than 50 scooters would be permitted to operate at both the sites collectively.
TIt further allowed paragliding at Solang and Marhi with a clear direction that at both the places the paragliding would take place within the identified areas and it would be ensured that the persons organising paragliding and tourists did not generate any municipal solid waste at the take-off and landing points
Giving relief to photographers of the area, the Green Tribunal has permitted them to carry out their activity at Rohtang, Gulaba, Solang and Marhi (subject to terms and conditions of the licence to be provided by the concerned state authority). Senior advocate Vibha Dutt Makhija, appearing for taxi and luxury coach operators, said while the taxi union had 1621 members, the luxury coach operators association had 190 members, mostly having diesel vehicles. "Grave injustice will be done to these tourist vehicle operators if the limits are not relaxed to 2000 vehicles at this stage as it is their only way to earn livelihood," she said.

According to BRO officials, the teams, engaged in the snow-clearing operation, have reached near the Rohtang Pass from both Manali and Koksar side and merely a 700-metre stretch of snow has been left.
Talking to The Tribune, BRO Commander AK Awasthi said, “This time, the weather is favourable, which helped us to speed up the snow-clearing operation from both Manali and Koksar side.
The workforce and machinery were deployed in the region and it is expected that the pass will open in one week, if weather remains favourable in the coming days.”
